TEMPORARY BOAT LAUNCH CLOSURE 2020 MARINA SEASON
Effective immediately, the Marina Boat launch will be temporary closed for the 2020 Boating season. As we continue to witness an unprecedented rise in lake levels, we are also experiencing the secondary effects associated with that rise. Seiches and northwest winds threatened our new marina infrastructure, undermined our boat launch, and caused flooding in our parking area. The launch pads, made of concrete, are now compromised and can no longer properly distribute the weight of larger vessels, resulting in the potential sloping, or breaking of the pads when used. In addition, all launching for the 2020 season is hereby directed to the North Park Boat launch located at 601 Front Street. Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to a great boating season!
The Suttons Bay Marina is located just east of downtown along Lake Michigan and features Marina Park, a public beach where residents and visitors can sunbathe, swim, and play in the clear waters of Lake Michigan. The Park hosts picnic tables, grills and volleyball nets. The water of Suttons Bay is shallow with sugar sand making this beach a favorite for families who can spend the day playing volleyball or watching the kids play in the children’s play area. The Marina gives boating visitors a place to moor while they enjoy all that Suttons Bay has to offer .
The Village recently upgraded the floating docks, power and water systems. The upgrades are all part of the 2012 Marina Masterplan. All these upgrades not only enhanced performance but also safety. With a floating dock system the marina is capable of handling high and low lake levels. This aspect has become crucial with near lake level lows in 2015 and near high lake levels this season.
One of the largest aspects of this project has been the power upgrade. As a result of these improvements, if a boat is leaking current, the system is designed to trip the breaker, ultimately stopping the leak into the surrounding water.
We urge everyone to come and check out the Marina’s new improved infrastructure. We feel extremely grateful to offer the community a safer and more modern Marina environment
